Did you ever stop and consider that maybe the most selfish person in John 5:1-14 was the invalid man himself? Perhaps Jesus asks him in verse 6 "do you want to get well" because the man was satisfied being in the condition he was in? It is hard to believe that this guy could not get anyone to help him get in the pool for 38 years.
